Well, that'd just mean one would have to have a box magazine, and I'm betting most levergun enthusiasts would give a lever action with a pistol mag sticking out of the bottom a weird look and a chuckle before moving on.The rimless case is not the major problem, just note the .35 Remington. The ACP round would simply be too dangerous in casual use. No gunsmith or manufacturer wants the liability. Despite all the warnings in the world, there is far too much danger of someone loading the magazine with hardball rounds. The problem likely would not be recoil setting off the magazine rounds, but dropping the rifle or rough handling might just be the quick way to Lawsuit Land.
Marlin camp carbine.Well, that'd just mean one would have to have a box magazine, and I'm betting most levergun enthusiasts would give a lever action with a pistol mag sticking out of the bottom a weird look and a chuckle before moving on.
Semi auto, not a lever gun. The Camp Carbine also was available in 9 MM. The Beretta CX4 is made in both calibers also. You can buy a magazine with pretty good capacity for the Camp Carbine in 45 ACP, but the CX4 comes with two magazines that hold only about 7 rounds. If any of you know a a better mag for a CX4 (45ACP) I would sure like to know about it.Marlin camp carbine.![]()
Sorry to tell you this, but I owned an El Tigres in 38 Special caliber. So 44-40 wasn't the only caliber they were made in.Sorry Ironhead, El Tigres were only produced in a single caliber, .44-40.
Being rimless is not a feeding problem for designers. Using actions that are too long for the short case (particularly the tilting lifters of the '92's and both '94's) is a problem. A handmade short '73 action would be fantastic, BUT you would still have the problem of possible hardball in a tube magazine to contend with and that's too much to deal with.
I'm like pruhdlr, but way poorer. I'm still waiting for the Hi Point .45 (like a zillion other folks) after spending a weekend with a friend's .40. 500 rounds later, I'm a believer. They are horribly short on sex appeal but plenty long on accuracy and reliability.
Fit, fire and eject from a 1911 Pistol..
What will a 45 ACP do that a 45 Colt will not do?
.
Maybe true from a liability point of view .The rimless case is not the major problem, just note the .35 Remington.
Other than the novelity , I have a lot more .45 ACP brass , than I have .45 LC brass .I would imagine the combined challenge of a short case and no rim to assist with feeding/extraction, plus the availability of the powerful, versatile, and suitable, 45LC has kept experimentation to a minimum. There are so many good cartridges to stuff in a lever-gun, why make it hard on yourself? You can load the 45LC down to very mild levels or crank it up for some 100 yard deer hunting loads. Problem solved?
