i hae seen several loads for the marlin 1895 45-70 guide gun in several reloading forums that will push a 300 or for that matter 400 grain jacketed bullet out at 2000fps.  are these loads safe?  in all my manuals iam lucky to see 1800fps with a 300 grain...

Yes,they are safe.I have pushed 300 grain bullets over 2100 and 400 grain bullets at over 1800 fps out of my guide gun with no problems. However each gun is diffrent so start out with a min. charge and work up.For some really hot loads get a Ruger #1 in 45/70 and push 300 grainers at over 2500 fps.

2000 FPS OUT OF A RUGER WITH 400 GRAINERS ...OK...BUT PROBABLY MAX. THIS IS A (LEVEL 3 )LOAD.  (LEVEL 2) MARLIN SAFE ... 2100 FPS OUT OF A 300 GR., 1900 FPS FOR A 350 AND 1800 FPS WITH THE 400/405'S IS ABOUT AS HIGH AS YOU CAN GO SAFELY WITH A MARLIN OR  NEW JAP 1886. EVEN THOUGH METALURGY IS VERY GOOD TODAY, A MARLIN ACTION ISNT ANYWHERE NEAR AS STRONG AS A RUGER NO.1 OR A BOLT GUN. DONT PUSH IT.
