Has anybody taken some long shots with any of the new 22 mag ballistic tip ammo thats on the market. There moving darn near the same speed as the 17 hmr. Ive shot alot of 300 yard shots with the 17 hmr and had great results. I use a bsa drop compensated scope with a 20 grain bullet at 2300 fps and it hits every time. The 22 mag should hold more down range energy at 30 grains and its only 100 fps slower. Im even considering a bsa scope for the 22 mag it shouldnt be that different. Thanks for any input.

I shoot a .22 Mag for squirrel hunting. I've never shot at even targets at 300 yards but WOW, if that's all true then I'm gonna keep a close eye on this thread. Have any more specifics? Is this CCI stuff or Hornady or what? Thanks Jumbo.

We consistently shoot out to 150-175 yards at gophers, but that is reaching and we put a couple thousand rounds through our guns in a season. Shoot a gun enough you know how far you can stretch a shot, but at 300 yards there isn't anything left. I normally shoot either Federal Premium 30 gr HPs or Hornady BTs. Have even shot the "green" bullets Hornady makes with good results.
