I had Steve Herrett shape a set of grips for my old model Blackhawk out of some nice walnut. The grips are larger than the metal grip frame, and enclose it almost completely, and reshape the grip to a 'Bisley-like' contour that fills my hand nicely. Recoil is much easier to control, no bite against the middle finger. I put a hand rubbed oil finish on them myself (I was working as a cabinetmaker at the time).
