While I don't have a Lyman 4500, I do have the Lyman heater plate that fits under my lubrisizer and I'm very happy I have it. I like the hard lubes, they are less sticky than soft, do not desposit lube all over my fingers, and tend not to gum up my seater die. The only problem with hard lubes is it requires heat to make it flow. I have a switch between my power source and the heater plate so when the lube starts to get too soft, I turn off the heater to maintain the correct temperature to my lubrisizer. I don't know how much power your hair dryer pulls but if it is more than what the heater pulls, I say go for the heater. In addition, being built into the lubrisizer, you have the convenience of no longer having to handle the hair dryer. Just my dos centavos on the lubrisizer heater and my preference for hard lubes. YMMV
