I just purchased a 1953 Model 70 30-06. It has a retractable sling contained in the butt stock and I have not seen this on any other Model 70, and can't find any literature etc. about it. Does anyone have any ifo on this? Was this an option or custom? Thanks. Blip.1

I remember seeing ads for an aftermarket stock years ago that had a retractable sling. It was never a factory option from Winchester, unless their Custom Shop might have put out one or two. A photo would help to identify it.

If my memory serves me correctly these were aftermarket items only. A J.C. Higgens 22 autoloader (cant remember the model number) is the only rifle factory equipped with this type of sling, that I have ever seen. I am an avid Winchester model 70 researcher and I have never seen a factory sling of this type on any Winchester.
