I have a Marlin model 1893 in 30-30. It's been in the safe for years because I own 10 lever guns and I find the short carbines more handy to hunt with. There is some color case hardening left on the receiver and the barrel is 25 1/2-26 in. long with a brass blade front sight. The wood looks like it's been varnished, did those guns come out with an oil finish? Someone in an other post seems to implicate that a long barrel is not common on a Marlin, how rare? I just renewed my interest having been involved in other stuff recently. Thanks for any info.
