Longer Model 375 Magazine; No Cutting of Dovetails.

FWIW. Did it to do it.

Could not log in. Finally, went to this forum and was able to post...

Marlin sites are (,com and ,net) poorly managed. Do not need WH-type bunglers, IMO.

Finally found magazine tube (same as 336) and cut to just over-length.

Removed original mag dovetail (tapped out with AL dowel) (Mdl 375 original 1980)

Acauired longer spring.

Drilled/tapped blank 3/8 insert and replaced orig, saving parts with tube and spring.

Drilled/twpped insert only and tube end-6/48.

Installed tapped dovetail.

Used original foreend piece/screws and

Installed it with new tube, AL follower, new spring shortened to extend 5 inches,

Used drill/sander to snug tube to length.

Nota Bene: Do not need added dovetwil in barrel.

Magazine full length, ala Winchester and will accept 5 -6 rounds without jamming.

All old parts retained to reinstall as original.

Cannot post pics, so PM with email...might send, if I can log in et all.

Easy job, but s;ightly picky job to change. Just need new tube, spring, 2-6/48 hex scrws) a 31 bit and 6.48 tap (Amazon-American short drills and Hanson tap).

Now havr to shoot it...

Good for you.

Meant to ask you when you made your first post - which cartridge? Assume .30-30 or .35 Rem as those are the most common, but I'm not sure if they are the same.

All's well that ends well.

Think his header says "375", Mike.

Ah missed that. The mag tube should be identical to the .30-30, I'd think.

OK the .35, .30-30, and .444 are all 0.650" on the outside diameter. I suppose it isn't too critical as long as the cartridge will fit in it.... would imagine that the .45-70 and probably .450 Marlin tubes are larger.

Probably the most critical dimension is the recess in the front of the receiver that the mag tube fits into.
