I have the Model 70 which is the same gun but just a little older. Generally they are quite accurate for a out of the box gun and dependable. There is not the huge number of aftermarket parts for them like the 10/22 but there doesn't need to be.
If I didn't already have several gun projects I 'd go for it.

You can't go wrong with any Marlin ! They are known as the most accurate rimfires out there. Ruger 10/22's are fun, but not very accurate out of the box.

I have 3 Marlins in my safe. My 81TS, I shoot quarters with it at 40 yards, and I have a railroad plate (roughly 7"x10") hanging on a tree, 120 yards away. I can ring it everytime with that little Marlin :)

I have two 795's - paid about $120.00 for each. Now that there is a stainless model I would get it. For the $$$ there is no better .22 - I've never had a FTF. I like the 10 round mag and last round bolt hold open. Good accuracy and excellent reliability. I bought 5 extra 10 round mags from Marlin. Love my guns.
