Does anyone know whats happening over at the marlin board? The only thing I can figure is it must have crashed.I've had to reregister there already three times and my poor brain can't keep up with all my names.
Being marginally involved in the Internet arena, I'd say that someone is sabotaging their site. I have friends that own an ISP that was hacked from Europe.....it took their entire staff (24 hours a day) three days to remove the alien files so they could get back to business. Can't even speculate about user names.......my original still works while yours doesn't.......aint computers fun!?
Marlin-Talk is currently still having problems. The board isn't taking any new posts, and it seems they lost all of their posts. May be an attack, like we've had here on the Shooter's Forum several times, and we may still be down if it weren't for a complete understanding of how the website fits together. Taking these attacks into account, we performed the re-design/re-development of the new Beartooth to protect even further against it. So Marlin may be looking at a re-do of things...
Hopefully Marlin-Talk will be able to recover their posts, as there was a lot of very helpful and informative information over there. Please reply here if anyone has any further updates.
The Marlin board is down again tonight. The Admin posted this morning and said the Infoprop software crashed on them and wiped out all the old posts. Marlin is looking for new software. Someone posted a week or so ago and said that the lastest version of Infoprop is known to be defective. (I could repeat what he said, but this is a family board <!--emo&--><img src="http://beartoothbullets.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''><!--endemo-->
The Marlin board does have a lot of good info. Perhaps they could get the same board software Beartooth is using. The biggest problem the Marlin board has is the lack of any moderator; a couple of jerks are allowed to turn useful discussions into urinating contests, to the benefit of nobody.
Looks like they've gotten a few posts back up, still no major improvements. Someone said something about Marlin being moved over to a dedicated server this weekend, hopefully we'll see things back as promised Monday morning.
Just got information straight from Infopop, the developer of Marlin's Community System. Seems it wasn't a hacker at all, but rather a flaw on their server. Slow to no response times, improper setup and configuration, and what seems like just a bit of lack of forsight on the part of Marlin. Infopop has been working closely with them to restore their posts, so they should have things back in working order fairly soon if they're going to be able to.
It crashed again just as I'm making this post, seems to, at least so far, allow registration, yet you can't access your profile, nor make posts of any kind, reply nor start a new topic. Posts are ramdomly accepted, and deleted. Not even showing total count of members...
Well, at least they're working on it from the sounds of things, hopefully all these up and down things are a good sign,
We are in the process of moving the Marlin Website to its own dedicated server. This should alleviate the problems we've been having with Marlin Talk along with speed up transfer speeds. Please check back at a later date."
