I'm not even aware of anyone making .223 ammo with bullet noses flat enough to be suitable for a tubular magazine.

The .218 Bee and .219 Zipper were the last centerfire .22s I know of being produced. Probably been a while, and maybe something else in the interim.

FWIW, That "Marlin in .308" ISN"T the .308 Winchester - it's a rimmed, lower-powered version (a kinda .30-30 on steroids) , the .308 Marlin.

BLR's aren't tubular magazines like the Marlins. That's the trick! Good option.

I often wonder why some folks think that leverguns have to have a tube magazine to be a "real" levergun? For me, its the handling and utility that attracts me, not any type of "romance". I use eight with tube mags, four with box mags and enjoy every one. I guess to each, their own. Whatever you like, just enjoy it.

From what I've read, with the proprietary powders and loading techniques Hornady is using, the 308 Marlin Express (with FTX bullet) is a lot closer to a 308 Winchester than a 30/30. Reports give it 2650fps with the 160gr FTX, which puts it just slightly above the 307Win and 300 Savage, and just below the 308.

Sorry, broom. Most chronographs report real world results with .308 Marlin ammo (and its odd bullet weight) in Marlin rifles (not pressure barrels, the darlings of advertisers) in the range of 2500 to 2550fps, leaving the Marlin behind the .300 Savage. These results leave the Marlin a lot closer to halfway between the .30-30 and the .308 Winchester. Without the secret factory powder and technique, handloading efforts leave the Marlin round even closer to the .30-30.
