Marlin Model 39-A K15646

My father won this in a shooting competition in the 40's and on his passing it came to me.
I would like to learn a bit more about this model. Can you tell what K15646 would tell me about the year it was made.

I am interested in anything else you could tell me about this rifle and where I might find more information.

There are a few other websites that have a ton of info on 39A Marlins. Rimfire Central, Marlin Owners, and Marlin Collectors would be your best bet.
Off the web, Brophy wrote a book about Marlins that is the defacto Bible on the subject.
A "K" prefix serial number gun was made in 1952, so that competition must have been in the early 50's. No biggy...I'm in my 50's and can't remember what I had for supper last night, let alone when I got my first 39A.
