mauser 8mm????

My grandpa had an old rifle he passed down to me and would appreciate more info if at all possible. All the markings i can see on the gun is mod.98 on the left side of gun and am told it shoots 8 suret not quite sure, it also has an old scope which says. weaver and looks alot like the 80 anniversary k4 series but of course is much older than 2010

You should do a chamber cast if you are not sure of the caliber.

If it has the original barrel it is 8x57 rimless Mauser. It is a common caliber and it's easy to find amo just about anywhere.

Thanks for all the info, and im told 8mm is plenty good since it does have original barrel, but i've never seen barrel with steps in it like this. Anyone know why its like that?
That is typical for the German military rifles.

This is a restock of a WW II German Mauser. You can't see it too well in the photo but it sill has the stepped military barrel.

I believe if I had a gun with a stock like that I would give up huntin'...just stay home all weekend and stare at it! :)
When I take that one out in the woods the deer come in from miles around just to gawk at it :D
CD - im still trying to figure out how to load pics from my phone and the only thing i can get out of this is how to send to email or text message so if you want i can do that unless anyone knows these new phones now a days
Sign up for an account at any one of the image hosting web sites like photobucket http://photobucket.com/ Your phone may already have a built in app to upload to one of the image hosting sites. http://photobucket.com/mobile/index/

Image hosting is free (for the most part... limited bandwidth and storage for the free accounts). I have never needed anything other than a free account.

Once you have your image uploaded, you can use the standard img tag to show the photo in any web forum that uses the bb format
