Just purchased my first Marlin 336. It has a Y prefix prior to a four digit serial #.

The rifle looks virtually new and unfired, with the exception of some light scratches on the forward barrel band.

A little research shows it mfg'd in 1964, although, I have a sales receipt that shows a purchase date of Dec 63 ?

Thanks for your thoughts. Lj

If you're getting that date by looking the serial number up, then it's possible someone typo'd it's position in the list. Another possibility, if it's written by hand, is someone wrote the wrong year on the receipt. Life is full of confused people. I'd call Marlin and see if they have any other ideas.
