I am looking for old Mil Surp rifles that I can get on the cheap so I can strip them down and refurbish them.

The problem I have is that the only place I can find them are at Gun shows and the seller wants major money for them.

I would really like to find one or two old Mil Surp rifles for less than $100 each so if I screw them up I am not out a ton of money.

Does anyone have a site that you can buy these from?

Or does anyone know a place in North Florida that sells old Mil Surp rifles?

I would prefer that they work also and country of origin doesn't matter much to me.

It depends what you prefer

There are various sites that list surplus arms. You might look at AIM Surplus, Century Arms, Southern Ohio Gun among others. They will ship to an FFL dealer where you must do the paperwork and background check. Hope this helps. All the best...

Big 5 sporting goods occasionally has milsurp junk under 100.00 during sales. Might check there if you have them in your area. The old guy over at Boxoftruth.com has a pretty good article on refurbing them, and might list some sources.

A C&R is the way to go.

Agree about Big 5. You are often able to locate a Mosin Nagant on sale in my area at Big 5 for just iver a $100.00. This is just about a 308 Winchester. Jim Foral wrote a good article on early sporters based on this rifle.

At a recent gunshow I saw a 6.5 Carcano offered for $200.00! Some things we see cause wild laughter.

Just this Christmas I bought my wife a Century Arms Mosin/Nagant 91/30 for $99.00 at my local gun dealer, Adventure Outdoors. It is a mid 50s? round receiver Russian, I have not cleaned it yet, but, it looks fine. Looks pretty much like my hex 1932.

Poor inexperienced shooters like me can still kill something out to 200 yards easy with the iron sights, so, I don't think I can classify it as junk, just cheap.

The wood on mine are pretty nice, but, to cut off a pound or two and to add a scope I might replace with the syn. stock.

It depends

I see surplus arms in the various gun shops that I visit. They range from interesting pieces to the absurd. Prices are all over the place so you have to know what you are looking for in surplus arms. I have managed to find military rifles that had altered stocks for not much money. It the metal is in tact, I was able to remilitarize them by getting original stocks. Take care...

I've got an 03A3, MN 91/30 and a type-99 Arisaka in 7.7 Jap, all sporterized.

Ironically, C&R military rifles that have had the least "improvements" made are the most expensive. In other words, the closer they are to their original military configuration, the more you'll pay to get one, so depending on exactly what you mean by wanting to "refurbish them", you should be able to get them for less than $150. One thing's for sure, though: The good ol' days of buying used rifles for what a tank of gas costs in today's money, are long gone.

I have to agree. With the exception of the 91/30's....the cheap guns are going the way of the DoDo! I bought my Yugo SKS back in 2005 for $110....still in cosmoline. Now you'd be lucky to find the same for $350. That's 3 times the amount! And forget the "cheap" AK's and ARs. Those days are long gone....like 69 Camaros for $1500 and 57 Chevys for $2500. Hasta la paycheck!!
