Mod 70 bolt rust

Not sure where you are located. It depends on how bad the rust problem is on the bolt shroud. Just curious, how did it get rusty? I have touched up some metal areas with cold blue. If you want hot blue, a local gunsmith should be able to advise you of the options. Hope this helps. All the best...

Welcome. I'll assume these are blued bolts (I have seen rust on SS), or not correct? And, this is on the EXTERIOR, around the 3-position safety, not interior? If so....how deep is the rust? You could try rubbing out the rust with 000 or 0000 steel wool with some gun oil if it is not too deep. If too deep to rub out, it's a trip to a gunsmith with blueing capability. Good luck.

The bolt is blued.
The rust is on the inside.

OK. I went and turned the firing pin out of one of my Mod 70 bolts just to make sure what we're dealing with. Given the recess and 'hidden' areas that are there, I think I would probably take it to a gunsmith for cleanup and possible parts replacement, unless the rusted portion was all accessible by cleaning with a toothbrush & oil? Any chance of posting a pic or two of the rusted areas?

Dont know how to get a pic on here. But there is many hidden areas in the cocking block.
