Hello,

I am interested in getting in to match shooting and I was thinking about purchasing one of these two rifles. Are they pretty much match ready out of the box, except adding a scope, or should I do some modifications first?

Depends upon what YOUR definition of Match rifle is????

Regardless of the model name nor the ads, neither is really a match rifle. To get either to come close to a match rifle you will need to add more that the cost of an original match rifle (Anschutz 1907 $ 2895 list).

For informal target shooting and shooting tree rats, the 457 Varmint MTR is a fine rifle. adding Lilija barrels, BSCAR trigger etc is just never going to make it into somehting it isn't and wasn't design to be.

CZ rimfires are accurate fun guns to shoot (452 and 455) and I shoot them at 200 yards...but not a real match rifle.

The term "match" doesn't mean much. Any competition can be called a match. Big difference between what's required in the gun depending on what you're going to use it for. Don't ever assume that adding modifications is always a positive thing. Lots of companies out there willing to sell you parts than may not make the gun shoot any better than before they were added on to the gun. Find out what you need the gun for, use it for that, and see what other shooters have done to make their gun actually better than yours before spending the money. Add what works. I can't believe the amount of people out there today buying aftermarket parts for guns even before the gun arrives. They like to call them "upgrades" and say they're "building a gun". Sort of like legos or something. That's not really building a gun. Don't rush in without giving it some thought. Good luck.
