I hope to get draw this year around Ekalaka, for elk/deer. I have never been there but have the oportunity to hunt some private land. Can you tell me about the hunting potential around there about 20 miles southeast of Ekalaka.
You should find some primo mule deer hunting around Ekalaka.
Elk will be a little, make that a LOT, harder to come by.
Check out the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks web site for some good info. Their "Hunt Planner" is something you should look into.
I have hunted out that way several times with a deer/elk combo and it is really good for deer/antelope but there just about zero elk in that part of region 7. There are two separate parts of Custer National Forest out there that have a small amount of elk but they are closed to elk hunting and the bordering areas are private and I don't remember any being Block Management. If the private property you have access to has elk on it ten I guess you have a chance.
