I need a scope rail that mounts in place of the rear sight on the barrel, and does not mount to the receiver. I have the XS scout mount on another rifle and do not want it on this rifle for aesthetic and carry reasons.

I would like to see this when you get done, I mount my on the receiver, but a mid gun mount has it advantages, but I think it would have to possible a pistol scope to do what you want.

"....Does not mount to the receiver"? Where will it mount? A single point scope mount may not be solid. I have one that mounts in the rear sight slot and to the rear barrel band but I have been unable to get it rigid enough. A loose band does not hold aim point and a tight band affects accuracy.

Gelgoog, Wild West Guns of Alaska makes a mount that straddles your rear sight giving you the ability to have a scout scope set up. It also leaves you with the ability to still use your rear sight when the scope is removed. Check it out. I beleive Midway sells it or you can contact WWG . I had one on a Win 94 trapper in 44mag. Wish I never got rid of it.
