Either gun will perform what you need it to do. Also, any of the cartridges will handle deer and hogs equally well. If you think you will be going after bigger game, the 454 will be the best choice. I have shot both brands and from my experience the Taurus is the better built of the two guns. The Super Redhawk I bought in 454 has been to the factory once because it would not function and is now at Mag-Na-Port because it will not group.
