Hello everyone, I thought I would make my fist post one of thoes "help me pick a new gun" thread. I bought my first ML 6 years ago and it's all i've used to hunt with. Now I'm ready to get a new better one. I've narrowed it down to the Omega,Omega Dream Season, and the Triumph Bone Collector. My questions are, 1. the dream season barrel is 2in shorter, will this effect accuracy in the 100-150 yd range? 2. Is the laminate stock better than composite? 3. Does the break open design loose any accuracy? Thanks guys for all your help.

I have heard some people talking about loosing accuracy with a break open action and a two piece stock. I personally have never seen that happen. Two inches will not make all that much difference. But if I had to pick, it would be the Bone Collector model. I have both laminate and composite. I personally like the composite stock.

You have narrowed it down to some pretty good choices. The omega has become a little bit dated and isnt considered by most when considering a new ML but they are still great gun and are known for their simplicity and accuracy. I have one with a composite thumbhole stock and if there was one thing that I would change about it is I would add the speed breech so that I could remove the breech plug by hand. Other than that they are easy to clean and as I said before very simple. IF I were in the market for a new ML right now I would go with the Triumph. Mainly because of the speed breech and the fact that it is easier to insert the 209 primer in them, especially with gloves. The triumph shouldnt be any less accurate than the Omega or any other inline TC ML. As far as I know they all share the same basic barrel and twist rate (comparing the inlines). The composite stock will also be your best bet with whichever gun you choose as the laminates still can be scratched and nicked.

Thaks for the input. The old style screw out plugs don't bother me, it's what i've been using so far. I tried to find a store that has all 3 so I can do a side by side but no luck. Maybe I'll find all 3 at the next gunshow.

Well I had to go to 2 stores today, one had the Omega And Triumph the other had the Dream season and Triumph. The triumph is nice but just doesn't feel right. Both omegas are 500 in my neck of the woods, the reg omega has laminate. Guess I'll just flip a coin.

if one of the things youre looking for is ease of use and cleaning, then break action is the way to go. i had a CVA Wolf that i gave to my brother in law as a wedding gift (i made a thread about it), and it was the easiest to clean rifle ive ever owned. pull the breech plug and run your patches/brushes. ive personally not looked at the smokepoles youre thinking of, but i do know that 2 inches of barrel wont make a real difference. my father in laws ML has a 28" barrel, the wolfs has a 24" barrel. mine was getting about the same accuracy with a slightly different load(4 grains of powder and 60 grains of bullet). i have no idea if that helps you or not, i hope it does.

Hey there Luvbigbore!

I will always favor the experience of greater accuracy (success) in the field, over any other option. I therefore, wouldn't sacrifice any barrel length.
I'd stick with a composite stock and a stainless steel barrel, if I could get it! A ML with a composite stock and a stainless barrel will look nicer for a longer period of time and therefore hold its resale value.

Whatever you decide to do and before you make your purchase, check out these websites:
