hopefully the new start of bear season being on a saturday will help get people into the woods. i am sure the 1 day will help sales of tags as people can at least get one day in the woods instead of taking off work for another day. employers are becoming less and less tolerant of the vacation days used between bear, deer and thanksgiving. maybe this will work well enough to do the same for deer season. the next battle will be for sunday hunting

What state are you talking about? Vt used to have a spring bear season that ran for a long time. I forget the details. They still have a fall season.

In CT we have bears now along with moose and mountain lions. The bears show up on the TV news almost every night. Hopefully there will be a season on them.

i think it's a fine idea! Some more people in the woods will actually move some bear the first day! As for a saturday deer opener I hope it never happens, to much tradition, and when that happens they won't give the kids mon and tues off school ( always nice to have some youngsters around camp)

I've been wishing the clowns at the Game Commission would have a Saturday deer opener for over 20 years.

Think how many guys that have to work M-F could finally get to see the first day of deer season.

I haven't seen the first day of deer season in PA for 23 years. And I won't see it until I retire unless they change things.

As for "tradition"................ the PGC has trashed every other hunting tradition this state ever had. Why not just polish off the last one and let some working guys hunt??

im not sure if the school closing was for the kids or teachers, but it worked for both equally. i believe some districts have stopped doing that but im not positive.
deer season opener is certainly not the big anticipated event it once was.
a saturday opener might spark some interest in getting people involved again.
as for sunday hunting why not, lots of other states do.
bear numbers are up due to lousy weather last 2 seasons.
i wouldnt count on a saturday opener as a regular thing.
