That's good news, indeed.

I'll be looking forward to the powder's release in the spring of next year.

All the guys who have bought the 308 or 338 Marlin Express guns will be glad to see this powder come out, as well as anyone who's fallen in love with the FTX/Leverevolution loads in their 30/30 or other traditional lever-gun cartridge. I'm a little surprised they are releasing the Superperformance powder, however, because this will probably cut into whatever margins they were making on sales of that line of ammo. I think it's safe to say most guys who care more about that added velocity are willing to handload to get it, especially if it saves them a few bucks.

I think the new powders, like Reloader 17 and the 300 series Alliant powders are an attempt to answer the extra velocity performance of some of the proprietary powder and load systems used by ammunition makers. Don't want the reloader to feel left out, I suppose. I'll have to reserve judgment until I've had a chance to wring them out.

And I wonder what impact these powders might have for people who are thinking about an AI cartridge. Will they just not bother, or will they do it anyway just too see how much more thay can get? I suppose both things will happen.

I'd like to know if there is anyone out there who has shot and chronographed the Superformance ammo and can comment on the perceived recoil of same weight bullets in standard factory loadings.

Just like the whizzbangsuperduperultramagnumpipsqueaks, they don't do anything more than the older cartridges ever did... 1/2" flatter at 300 yards is useless.

I gotta be honest here, Matt...I think you're missing the point, entirely. There are a bunch of guys out there who really value the added performance of the Leverevolution loads and until this powder comes out, the ONLY way they can get that performance is to buy the factory ammo. This effects a lot of classic lever-action rounds, but is of particular value to guys who have bought rifles in the new 308 and 338 Marlin Express cartridges. What if you bought a car that got 30 more HP, but only with the gas they put in at the factory and the only way you could get that gas was to fill up at the dealership, where it cost more than regular gas?

This really isn't about the short-mag rounds, it's about old cartridges getting a new lease on life, and getting the promised performance out of new rounds. Also, if you can use the Superperformance powder to turn an '06 into a 300WM, what's bad about that? The truth is, we're not talking about 1/2" at 300 yards, we're talking about 3" at 300 yards...which is anything but useless.

That's in line with the numbers I'm getting comparing the .308 168gr SMK @ 2650fps and 2850fps... 3.7" less drop @ 300, 7" @ 400, and 18.5" @ 600

And yes, if the old .30-06 could knock at the door of .300WM loads when needed, that would be a fine thing. The .270, .284, .280, .30-06 and others would be supendously versatile cartidges. Imagine pusing the .284 or .280 to 7mmRM velocities for both the hunter and the 1,000 yard shooter.

I'm not convinced by computer ballistics, nor factory claims to velocity. I guess you guys can buy into all the marketing hype, thats what its designed for, and its clearly working very well.

I'm just going by what my chronograph says and what 300 yard testing shows, which is remarkably close what those infernal "computer ballistics" predict. As you pooh-pooh this release of two new powders, keep in mind that black powder guys did the same when smokeless first came out, and it has happened again, with every new release of previously unavailable powders, like 4350.

I'm (getting to be) an old guy and I sometimes find myself swimming against the tide, make that FLOOD, of changes going on around me. Then I realize that I'm not only wasting my time and energy, but I might even be missing out on something new that I would enjoy a great deal. I have a strong suspicion these new powders would fall into that category, were I too set in my ways to consider them with an open mind.

The thing I really don't like in this whole Hodgdon powder/marketing campaign is the double standard.
Hodgy has been on the marketing kick of their magic "extreme" extruded powders, and how superior it is to the "old" ball powders; even thought they re-pack Win powders(Wind760 = H414). They have shown current shooting data for "their" ball powders, but not what they really are: WINCHESTER POWDERS.
And now the "revolutionary" Hornady blend is brought to the masses, in the form of their Extreme extru.... well ball powders.

Boo to Hodgdon.
Anyone impressed with the Superformance load in the .308, hasn't been shooting Win Ball powder, or reading the Sierra loading manuals...

One thing I noticed about trying to reload the 338MX was that I could only get within 150fps of the factory ammo. Plus my loads had more recoil than the factory stuff. So I will be buying some of their new powder to get my 338MX up to factory ammo standards. Then I will try it in my 356 & 307 Win. I don't need to shoot to Max , but I like the lower recoil, don't know why it feels less it just does.

If Win 760 and H 414 are the same why does my .300 SAUM shoot extremely well with H414 and not worth a hoot with W760?I have always heard the same about H110 and W296 and have found ,in my experience ,they do not shoot the same in my trials of each powder.I have tried some of the newest powders on the market and have found them to be very good.I especially like US 869,Titegroup and Enforcer.

First off I will be buying some of this when it comes out. I want my 06' to sizzle.
BUT....
Hogden said when they made superformance ammo "the key was spacifically blending the powders for the individualy case and bullet size/weight". How will this work for reloaders. It comes in one tub of superformance one tub for leverevolution. I think they were just b/s'n us all along. got to love salesmen and advertisers.

I'm interested in the Superperformance powder for two reasons:

1: They don't load it in the bullets or cartridges I want

2: I'd like to get back some of the velocity I lost with my short barrel. If the powder still has the performance increase in the short barrels, I'd love to get back to the performance of "standard length" barrels.
