New Ruger for my collection

I've traded my 300 RUM, for a Ruger M77 MkII .264 Win Mag. Will look great with my other three Rugers. I have a boat paddle stock waiting to go on it.

So, this will become my dedicated Whitetail rifle. 130gr Accubond about perfect for deer ?

I think eventually, I want them all to be wearing a different color Boyds stock. Pepper for the .338, Nutmeg for the 7mm, Blue for the .264, and red on the .300 :D
I new you were not right in the head :D:D:D:D but I like you anyway :)
Im still thinking about the Hornady SST. I have had great results with the Interlocks in the past. Hmmmmmm

The .264 out of a 24" barrel, doesn't seem much more potent than the.....*gulp* .270 Wimpchester :( It just seems like such a nostalgic cartridge to shoot.

Edit: Midway is having a blemished bullet sale. So I picked up a box of Hornady 129gr Interbonds to play with. $30 seemed like a good deal to me.
Ken, I was thinking the 140gr SST would be super in your 264. It has a great BC and it wouldn't be super stressed out from really high velocity and the SST's have been pretty good to me, and accurate. I really like your rifle. That is a sharp looking rig.

I learned to reload, with the 264 Win Mag and a Forster COAX about 20 years ago, and it has never gotten away from me. I have the COAX, but I don't have the 264. I really like the Rugers alot. They are about as solid a bolt action rifle I have ever handled. Either way, I think you are right on, and I would never sell the 264 short, compared to the 7mm Rem Mag. I think they are both very similar in ballistics and real world hunting power. With good bullets in the 140gr range, the 264 compares very favorably to the 7mm Rem Mag with 160's. It is not identical, but close enough an elk may never know the difference.

I think your future scope of a 4.5x14 is perfect for the rifle. The Simmons will be a good scope to get it broke in really well and get an idea of accuracy. I am truly jealous. Someday I will get one, but for now, load the heck out of that rifle, I can't wait to hear how it shoots for you.

Oh, the bullet he reloaded was the 125gr Partition I believe. I still have three of them in an old Nosler box he gave me. I have a hard time believing they wouldn't be as good as a 130gr Partition out of a 270 Win, and we all know that bullet has an excellent track record! Scotty

Thanks Scotty. I do want another Zeiss. I think the Silver would look good

I'm going to put the 6-18x40 Bushnell on it for load work. More zoom, helps ensure Im using the same sight picture each time. When I get a load ready, I will switch the scope.

Anyway, my ultimate goal is to get the 129 Interbonds up to 3150, and as long as they 3 shot group 3/4" or less, I will call it good. Then this fall, my father in law wants me to go hunting with him. So I hope it sheds blood when the season starts.

i think that is a very obtainable goal tang. i use ramshot magnum in my 6.5 and absolutely love it with the 130gr tsx... i use lapua brass and either a fed 215 or cci 250 and they chrono a very consistant 3050fps.
i enjoy the 6.5's... i picked up a 260 remington bbl. for my encore (15") that i've been messing with as time allows. really liking it with 100gr hornady's but i don't know if the 100gr hornady would make a good deer bullet or not... it's not an interlock so i'm thinking 100gr tsx or partition for deer & antelope this fall.

i think that you'll enjoy your new rifle, just remember that maximum velocity is not the final answer otherwise we'd all be shooting 36" barreled ultra mags....
Obviously I gave up velocity, by letting my Ultra go in favor of the .264.
Man, there is nothing slow about a 264 Win Mag. Just think, if you ever smoke that barrel and put a 26 or 27 inch barrel on it, you would the ultimate long range rifle. Scotty

Scotty, I dont know if you ever read about my .300 Cana idea or not. But Id like to do it with all my Win Mags. Take the .375 Ruger case, and ream the chambers out to fit it. Same bolt face, and the body of the case is the diameter of the belt on the mags. My .300 Cana, would match a .300 Wby (or slightly better it), in a 30-06 length cartridge. So imagine if I did it on all 4 ? The .338 Campfire has already been done, and it worked great for Rick Bin.
That sounds like a cool idea. I like to shoot and load, but I actually like to hunt with them more so I have plenty of time with what I have. I think a 358-375 Ruger would be pretty cool. I read a little about it on the Alaska forums. I already have a 35 Whelen and 338 Win Mag, so I am pretty well covered there. I do think your idea is pretty awesome. They would be top of the heap rifles for sure. Kinda surprised Ruger-Hornady haven't done the 338-375 Ruger though. It would compete pretty well with the UM and really be pretty awesome in a Ruger.

Still can't wait to hear about your 264 though. I think it is the king of long range hunting. Great bullets that buck the wind well and really good hunting ability. Scotty
Tang; between you and Rugerfan , those are some mighty fine logos next to your name! Another fine purchase. Not enough gun for whitetails, so choose your shots carefully!;)

Thanks Tang!! Now I can look cool and try to run with the BIG DOGS!:)
You guys are making me chuckle. I've only bought one new Ruger this year!

I hear ya Matt. This reccession really sucks!;)
Nice Rugers.... someday I'll have to get me one or two... Seems like the guys who have them really like em a lot. An owner of one my local gunshops uses a .264 exclusively for deer. He uses the 140 grain, but I can't remember the exact bullet..... and , Yes,.... according to him it has accounted for 335+ deer.... so it is definitely "laser beam deer death" to put it mildly. Have fun with it.....
