Hello All,
       As I mentioned in the thread "Question for John Kort" I picked up a new toy the other day! I just bought the SBH, but I found a Marlin 336A in a pawn shop and couldn't resist! I've been looking for one of those rascals for a long time, and it's just the version I was looking for too, with the more slender forearm and no checkering. It's in pretty good shape, a couple dings in the toe of the stock and some blueing wear where it was carried in a gun rack. The mechanical parts of the gun show very little wear, and the bore is pristine! I think it was carried a lot, shot a little.
       I cleaned the heck out of it and took it out to shoot this morning. Looks like it's going to be a shooter- I shot one cast load and one jacketed load and they both grouped 1" or a little less at 50 yards. I didn't have enough ammo loaded up to try longer ranges but with other open sighted guns my groups usually open up about 25%-30% at 100 yds. This rifle is the best fitting most comfy rifle I've ever shouldered. The weight and balance are just right for me! There is nothing like buying a good used gun! Good old/used guns need caring homes. :biggrin:

Don't worry about the wear and dings, gives it character.

30/30 or 35 Rem?

       I got the 30-30. Wouldn't have minded the 35 Rem. but I already have the stuff to reload 30-30 so it works out well. I'm very happy to have found it. They are pretty scarce in my neck of the woods.
        It'll be well fed and cared for now!
