For those wanting to learn a bit more about the new M71, The April Guns & Ammo magazine has an article and test on the new rifle, written by Wayne van Zwoll. The article says that the new rifle has both the tang safety and rebounding hammer. Looks to be a viable alternative for those wanting a big bore traditional lever rifle and don't want or need to scope it.
