New Winchester Model 71

I saw over on another forum that Winchester is offering a Shot Show special for new Model 71's (made by Japanese company?).

Anyone seen one on a distributor's website?

No. I've asked my dealer to check with distributors, and no one has one, not even Davidson's. I asked Winchester about it on their Facebook page, but haven't had a response.
The new 71s are are starting to ship, got mine this week. Very nice std grade. They said they will be moving them out over the next couple of months.... I know they have said that for years but I can say confidently that they at least shipped one...very nice action cycle, same as the browning 71s and Win 86s...I put my order in at least two years ago and have had it paid in full for quite some time.
I was just thinking of the one I put money down on to check on it. That's good news.
Sorry for the delay.... I've got pics but have no way to post them. I've been trying to resolve it but have been unsuccessful.
New member with a model 71 standard.

Hi folks, I am a new forum member and have a couple questions about my model 71 standard (348). The rifle has a Redfield peep on it and I really want to replace the barrel blank with the correct semi buckhorn sight.

Can you all advise me of what model rear sight Winchester used on the model 71 (1954)? I'm wanting to remove the peep and replace with blank screws and install the barrel sight. Any help on where I might find the correct sight would really help as well.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks a lot, Jim

Welcome, Jim, but I think you're making a mistake! Those peeps are hard to beat, and if you were to get a fold-down middle (barrel) sight, you could have the use of both!

If you want to sell the bolt peep, let me know.
The redfield on my 71' is not a bolt peep such as came with the deluxe rifles. It is the side mounted type and I believe its marked with an "E".

I have one of those on my "new" 71. My older (1936) deluxe has the factory bolt mounted one.
A real "shame" the model 71 will not say (made in the U.S.A.) !:(

I would purchase one in a heartbeat if that were the case.:D :D

You don't buy clothing, cars, or other major quality of life items without that made in the USA label?

If that is true, you are missing out on some really good stuff.

German watches
Swiss clocks
Irish woolens
Polish vodka
Italian sports cars
Italian leather shoes
French bread

Xenophobia is an ugly thing.
Miroku guns are a thing of beauty, for those not wearing bigot blinders

:)I picked up an older mint Deluxe quite a while back, 1953, but a bolt mounted peep isn't one of the options it has.

Mogwa, I purchased 3 suits while in Ireland a couple years ago. The wife and I spent 3.5 weeks over their checking out various area's.
This year it will be England, Wales, Scotland & France. I have plenty of watches, 2 Sako, 1 Swiss and 2 Timex. However, when it comes to rifles, I like to see USA on the receiver or barrel. I don't figure I have missed out on much at all during my GOD give life.:)

I am a model 70 Winchester type of guy! The only rifles I own that are not USA made, bear the name "CZ" on them and I am down to only two these days. A .500 JEFF & .505 Gibbs, those are going up for sale after the new year. I do think my Glocks are top shelf for use as a Self-Defense weapon. Pistol viewing goes to the Colts, Kimbers and Smith & Wessons USA made. I believe that in years to come, we will see more of the old products bearing the name USA on them. ;)

I have about half of everything you listed but.......I seriously doubt that 2bits is a Xenophobe, don't confuse nationalism and acting in the best interests of your countries citizens and your neighbors with bigotry.
My inlaws work at Jockey in Wisconsin, I try and buy all my underclothes with that label, does that make me a bigot? I own stock in Ford and Coke so I always buy those products so am I a bigot? I shop at locally owned grocery stores whenever possible that buy from local farmers because they use my services instead of buying produce from south America so I'm a bigot? I sell my services locally, sending my money out of the country doesn't help my customers that are doing business here.

Still interested.

Not to mention those darned Limey guns like Holland&Holland or Rigby or those doggone Italian and Spanish Shotguns like Beretta.
OK OK, I'll nip this post in the bud before it goes down river anymore! I am not partial to the Japanese or their country understand. I have family members in the grave (fought in the South Pacific) at a national cemetery and me bringing a JAP made gun home, would have gotten me hung to a tall oak tree. I lived my younger life listening to those in radio land, all about those South Pacific Battles and I sure as ham & beans not going to put any of my money in their country's economy period. Oh yeah, my father hated the JAPS!!!

Yes, I own several Italian shotguns & rifles, not to mention a couple of English rifles too. So I don't like the Japanese people a whole lot understand. So anybody who has a problem with that can Kiss My Royal AMERICAN ARSE TWICE. I also don't give a Tinker's Blessing about the ISIS or Taliban
