I am looking for a gunsmith trick way to machine a 1.25 dia straight blank into a tapered octagon. Would like .600 at the muzzle and about 1.06 at the breech, its about 26in long. I have a bridgeport with a long table, indexing head with an adjustable center and need help with sine, indexing and the best way that smiths have been doing oct barrels for years. Any help will be appreciated
Thanks, turbo

I know its pricy, but get a copy of "MACHERNRY HANDBOOK"

It has a good section on sine bars and the fomulas for setting them up.

No machinest/gunsmith should be without a copy.

Thanks guys, Machinery Handbook is the bible in a shop, I bought my first one in 62 for $13.95, was hoping that some old gun smith would step up an say over the years this is the best way I have found, so I guess I'll just do it the best way I know

Thanks
