The new local indoor range requires jacketed or plated ammmo. I will comply since I enjoy getting together with some pards eating a McGrease Burger and shooting for a couple of hours on Tuesday night.
So far I've found a very accurate load for my Python of 4.5 grains of Bullseye and the 125 grain plated bullet, the bullet is sized .357.
The S&W model 28 did not like the .357 bullets at all, but it out shot the Python using my cast, sized .3585, lubed with LBT 140 swc 4.5 grains of Bulleye. I use this cast bullet for plinking and play, the copper plated bullet will do the same.
How ever the search for the 45 auto rim is not so happy. I've tried the same 4.5 grains of Bullseye with a 200 grain, sized .451 plated bullet and at best I have a pattern. I suspect that the bullet needs to be .452 or larger. MAYBE A cup based bullet sized .452 would be a solution.
I may find the .451 bullet works best in the 45 Gold Cup. The cast bullets for the Gold Cup are sized .4525 and the swaged basegard bullets are the same size. The cast bullets for the auto rim are also sized .4525 and have used .454 sized bullets.
It's possible that there will be no joy in river city for the 45 auto rim.
