Just wanted to share this with. This week I fired a 445 Super Mag round in my 309JDJ Contender barrel. 34.0 gr of AA1680 and a Nosler 240 gr. HP bullet. The gun held together. Please be careful at the range!!!!
I e-mail JD Jones and here is his reply:
Hi JD,
Well I got up enough nerve to e-mail you about the, STUPIDEST thing I have ever done at the range last night. Just please call me lucky after you call me stupid.
I fired a 445SM round in my 309 barrel. I was shooting my 6.5JDJ,309JDJ, & 445SM (made by SSK) and I had both guns on the bench beside me and I just
picked up the WRONG one. The bullet went out the barrel and visually the barrel looks okay but I'm wondering what I should do with it. Is there any way you can check it out or should I count my blessings that I have ten fingers and two eyes and order another 309?
JD's Reply:
I would have bet the farm that combination would have turned it into shrapnel.. You are one lucky guy. I would think it prudent to send the gun and frame in for a check to be sure nothing is stretched etc. Last one we had in was a bolt gun in 22-250 that a guy fired a Remington 7.62x39 in---split the bolt lengthwise. The bullet stayed in the chamber witha 22 cal hole through it. Had it been a steel core military it could have been bad. Everyone makes mistakes---don't let it bother you---its a cheap lesson even if the gun turns out to be junk. JD
