I have a question for you. I seen HS6 and Win 540 powder mensioned in the same sentance. are these powders inter- changable? I can't find any listings anywhere for 540? Is Win 540 usable to build loads for the 45LC? I have a can that is still usable. If it is, what would be a starting load for 250 LRN/ JHP.

My understanding is that many of the Winchester and Hodgdon powders are made by Primex Technologies in Florida.  Primex ships large cansisters of powder to Hodgdon and Winchester, who then package the powder with their respective names and ship it.  The powders that I believe are the same are:

231 and HP-38
540 and HS-6
571 and HS-7
296 and H-110

I think that if you compare te above powders in various manuals you will find them to be very close.  Virtually identical.

I hope that helps.

God bless,
