Dumb question: I just bought a pre-64 model 94, and can't figure out how to disengage the lever from the bolt so I can take the bolt out and clean the bore. Please Help!

you'll find taking your M-94 down for cleaning easy and fast, once you get the hang of it. You need to visit your local library and look for the DBI book on firearms disassembly. It will help a lot. If your library does not have it surf around on this internet gizmo. there are several sites with disassembly instructions for the M-94. One by a woman named Laura or Laura Lee.... I'll look around for it and post a link if I find it.
The M-94 is "rock" simple, (which makes the Marlin "dirt" simple?). The big thing to remember is to use a good screw driver that fits the screw heads. If you tear up a screw head replace it! If a screw will not come out easily heat your reciever with a hair dryer. It helps the first time. If you get stuck send me an e-mail and we'll talk about it!

Thank you Slim! It does look simple, which merely exposes my ignorance. I've only recently discovered the beauty and satisfaction of shooting and hunting with model 94's and 336's, so I'm learning as I go. Thanks for the advice.

The diagrams are alright, but I think a video showing how to dissasemble the more common models of firearms would be a big seller.

I took apart my Rossi 92 using some documentaion I found on the net and it only took about 15 minutes to get it apart. Unfortunately, it took several hours to get it back together. I swore that if I got it back together in working condition, I wouldn't take it apart again but rather opt for break cleaner, an air copressor and some oil. It's working great but I might renig if I saw a video on dissassembly & re-assembly.

I agree that vid's are pretty neat. I think the American Gunsmith Magazine has a video on the M-94. It may be on the Brownells web site.
The lady's name I was looking for is Carolee Boyles - Sprenkel.... not Laura Lee....
She wrote an article for Alloutdoors.com, which i can no longer find... It had all the particulars on removing the bolt on a M-94.
The big thing to remember on the old flat spring guns is that you do not have to remove the mainspring screw to get the hammer out. Remove the strain (tension) screw and push down on the spring with your thumbs. Its a little harder to get the hammer back in and line up the hammer screw but you dont have to grind a screw driver to a 45 degree angle.
I'll look around for the video.

Thank you partners, VERY much. I'll bet a video or line of videos related solely to lever-guns, all aspects, from maintenance to history and aesthetics, to shooting/hunting, would be useful, fun, and a big seller. I'd buy one for sure.
