Howdy folks, I am interested in a Marlin 336 that owner says dates to 1957, pic shows received drilled and tapped, but I am wondering if it was factory or not. I can only see pics of the gun, not hold it. Have gotten burned before when drilled and tapped receiver was not factory standard. Could it be factory on a 1957 gun? Thanks!

Marlin started to D/T the Model 336 in 1956 ( SN prefix "N").
A 1957 rifle would have a SN prefix of "R".
Rifle D/T'd, but made prior to the start would still have the standard "wavy top" lines atop the receiver, which were discontinued with the start of D/T'ing.

I have a 336 SC Ser # G55080 i was always under the impression that my rifle was made in 1955, am i correct or mistaken
wavey lines on top of reciever and I drilled and tapped the reciever for a weaver 3-9v in 1970
any info is appeciated,

"G" code Marlins are 1950 vintage.
