Why are companies making .475 bullets/molds with meplats the same size or smaller than their .454 bullets? Wouldn't that negate the whole purpose of the larger bore?

Hi, Brasso:
Near as I understand it, the very wide meplat bullets like the conventional .38 wadcutter and the LBT Ogive Wadcutter (OWC) aren't as accurate at long range as the LFN bullets and the Keith type semi-wadcutters. IIRC, Ross Seyfried says the OWCs have a tendency to tumble once they hit meat and if they do, don't penetrate like a LFN type.

I'll buy that. But you would expect it to still be a little bigger on average. Any guess as to how well the Lee 400gr RF would do for accuracy? It is supposed to have a .36 meplat.

Hi, Brasso:
If you check the .475 bullets in the Beartooth shopping cart you'll see that the LFN meplats run .340-350" and the WFN is .385, so it looks like the Lee is intermediate. I don't have a .475, but Mr. Smale says it's his most accurate, and I'll take his word for it.
