Can a Winchester model 94 Trapper chambered for the 45 L.C. be rechambered to a .44-40 Winchester? If so, would it be a detailed process if done by a gunsmith? Would there have to be a changing of any internal parts, or just a barrel change?

Thanks in advance for your information,

The conversion would entail rebarreling the gun, but the boltface is right, since the head size on .45 Colt and .44-40 is the same, the cartridge lifter and other internal parts are set-up properly for either cartridge.

If this is an older, top eject gun (pre-AE), Numrich Arms used to have factory fresh .44-40 barrels for the M94 available at a very reasonable price. (up until the mid-80's they were still made and shipped to the Australian market in .44-40).  So, this might be a reasonable option for you.

God Bless,

Thanks for the reply Mr. Stanton. I hope and pray that you are doing well.
Regarding the rechambering process, would it be easier to convert the 44 mag Trapper to a 44-40 or, will I have the same problems with either the .45 L.C. and the .44 mag?

Much Appreciation you,
