Can any of you give me a reduced load with a 150 gr. FMJ in a 30-06? I have one with SR4759 which was Townsend Whelen`s bird and small game load but I would like a load with 5744 or another powder getting 1500 to 1800 fps.4759 is hard to come by in these parts. Thanks in advance for any help.---T.A.P.

From an old Lyman manual...I have a newer one at work, but it may not have any dif powders listed.

Take your pick, 700X, SR7625, PB, 13.5gns of 4756 (1572fps), Red dot, Unique, Green Dot and Herco, they are from 1400-1600 for the starting load.

And, not that it matters, those loads are for a cast bullet. So, let me know what pwders interest you and I'll post some info.

I Have Shot Countless 150gr Fmj With 13 Gr Red Dot From The 30-06 And Have Always Been Happy With Results. Also Prior To Change In Laws Here In Pa. I Used 110 Gr Lead Bullets With 6.0 Grain Red Dot For Squirrel However These Were Only For Close Shots As The Accuracy Goes Away Not Much Past 25 Yds. The 13 Gr Load Gets You Where You Want To Be And Is Very Pleasant To Shoot. I've Seen Similar Loads , All With Pistol Powders Except Maybe 4227. Good Luck

150gr Fmj With 13 Gr Red Dot
Thirteen grains of Red Dot - a classic load.
Here's a link to the article: http://www.castbulletassoc.org/forum/view_topic.php?id=1387&forum_id=22

The Accurate powder manual lists quite a few loads for jacketed bullets and XMR 5744 but none are for bullets lighter than 168 grains and are hotter than you want. The cast bullet data for 5744 starts at 152 grains (start is hotter than you want 30.2 grains gives 2157 fps with a 152 grain LRNGC)

I thought that your 4759 was a typo, but I checked my manual at work, and it has load for both 4759 and the 4756 that I listed.

My manual shows 14 loads. Here are some starters, 21.5 of 4227, 23.0 of 4198, 29 of 303, 12.5 of unique.

I like Unique in my .270, and a 90 grainer, if my memory is right, at about 2,000 fps. I killed a Javelina w/that load.

I shoot a saboted 55 grain .224" bullet from the '06 with 5 grains of Trail Boss. TB isn't for jacketed bullets and I've never tried it. This will get you 1050 FPS.
