I just got a Marlin 94 in .218 Bee, and need some loading data, my Speer manual does not have this cartridge in it.  Also, to keep things simple, I would like to use the same powder in my .22 Hornet.  On the internet I got some load data from Hodgdon using H4227 and H4198 powder.  My Speer manual lists IMR4227 and IMR4198 for Hornet loads.  Are the Hodgdon and IMR powders interchangable?  Any good loads for the .218 Bee would be appreciated.  Thanks.

D G,
They are very similar, but not exactly the same. I do have a Speer manual that lists IMR Powders for the 218 Bee. With a 46gr bullet they show a max of 14.2gr of IMR4198 (velocity 2738), and they show 9.8 gr of IMR 4227 with a velocity of 2127. These are NOT my loads, they are the listed max in Speer #12 so approach with due caution! They also caution against substituting components because of the sensitivity of small capacity cases. (Sorry if you know all this, I don't know your level of experience.) Anyway, hope this helps!    ID
