I’m looking to get my first 1911. I really like the looks of the original design. I’m thinking of getting a Remington 1911 R1, anyone have any experience with these?

Thanks for the reply. I am looking to get a 1911 that has the look and feel of the original, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be 100% accurate. For example I like the better sights and improved ejection port on this model, and I actually like the look of the stainless bushing. I have fired a friend’s R1 and it was very comfortable to shoot and fit my hand well. I didn’t have any problem with the slide or hammer biting my hand so I don’t think
lack of a beaver tail will be a problem. Also the safety fit my thumb perfectly.

Can you be more specific on the bad things you have heard about the R1?
Just a quick update, I ordered myself a new Remington 1911 last wed the 6th, ill be picking her up next sat. Ill post pics and a range report soon as I get a chance :D
Here it is!!

Took it to the range last week for the first time. Only had 50 rounds on me so I didnt get to do that much shooting. I was using Remington 230g round nose ammo. Not a single jam or FTF. The gun fired all 50 rounds perfectly. Very smooth action and slide.

I cant really comment on accuracy yet sine the conditions at the range were horrible, and Im still a new shooter. But from what I have heard from others who have an R1, its very accurate.
