Like the rest, have looked at the Remingtons. My main question is do you want a gun with fixed or adjustable sights? There are advantages with the adjustable sight. If the gun does not shoot to where you want it, adjustable sights can be very helpful in moving the group be it for windage or elevation. If you plan on only shooting short distances at big targets, either sight will work equally well.
Have no problems with the barrel bushing being left in the white. It is this way on my match fitted Colt 1911 and given a light coat of oil doesn't seem, in my case, prone to rusting at all.
As to needing to depress the magazine catch when inserting a magazine, I think this will "break in" over time and will no longer have be done. In fact, I insert all of my magazines with the catch depressed in order to just reduce bluing wear on them. This should bring in a flood of comments.
Don't recall what the Remington retails for, however, Colts (new or used) seem costly today. Back in the 70's, I had the opportunity to purchase one of two mint condition used Colts both priced at $130. In retrospect, should have purchased both of them but that was a time when a dollar was worth a dollar and I was grossing $130 a week.
