Does anyone have knowledge with the Rem. 700 VTR in .243 Win. ? How is the accuracy? Another concern of mine is the 22" barrel with muzzle brake seems that it might fall short in the velosity department.

I'm trying to imagine the need for a muzzle brake on calibers like the 223, 243, or even the 308. Since it is porting the gas straight up, is the idea to improve accuracy, in some way? Hard to imagine much better accuracy than my dad gets with his standard Model 700 BDL, in 243. One hole is one hole...
Individual rifles will vary: Do not presume you "need" to load bullets hot in your new rifle just because someone else found that to be the case. In fact, the conventional logic is that the most accurate loads, with slower powders in the 243, typically come at 1 or 2 grains below max. Consult a recent reloading manual and stick with documented loads.

Most every barrel will shoot better with a little fouling than they will with a clean cold bore. Shooting for groups, with a clean bore at the start of every group, is usually going to be an exercise in frustration.
