I recently got my first shotgun. Its a Remington 870 express super magnum....

I bought it over a standard magnum because it can shoot 3 1/2" shells... I probably wont shoot them often, but like the option....

So now I'm reading that 870 barrels are all interchangeable EXCEPT for the super magnum.... Can anyone tell me why this is? Could I get a standard 870 barrel and mount it on my super magnum as long as I dont try to shoot 3 1/2 shells? I would just be shooting 2 3/4" shells. Or is there some big difference that would prevent me from doing that?

Thanks guys.... I saw that about barrel interchangeability in the online manual, but I figured that the "without adjustment" meant not only to the gun, but to the type of ammo used.... Obviously if you are using 3 1/2" ammo, you would have to make an ammo adjustment if you put on a barrel with a 3" chamber, right? Or maybe it just wont accept the stock barrel off a normal magnum, but will accept one of the "extra barrels" listed on the website? Also note that they dont list any separate super magnum barrels for the 870, while they do list extra super magnum barrels for the 11-87 one with the note that it has a 3" chamber... The manual combined with the info on the website, I take that to mean I can use one of the listed 870 magnum "extra barrels" on my super magnum reciver, but need to use 2 3/4 or 3" shells with it..... hmmmmm
