Reuse Leupold Rings?

5362 Views 7 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Petey
I have a couple of sets of slightly used Leupold rings that I have in my scope gear drawer. These were used on a rifle that did not make the cut.

Curious as I intend to scope a A bolt in 300 Win Mag soon and need to use what I have on had to cut costs.

Is it ok to redeploy dual dovetail rings on new bases?

Thank you for the responses. FWIW - The rifle is a left hand Browning A bolt stainless stalker in 300 Win Mag.

I have a 270 Win in this same rifle. I really like to standardize as I shoot O/U shotguns with thumb saftey.

Last week I was still hunting (not stand) and took a doe on the run with the 270. First time I caught one running into cover while walking along a creek bottom. This is a milestone for me as thick hardwood bottoms in SC do not offer much time to get on target much less afford any decent stalkin or still hunting. I find shooting skeet and some bird hunting has helped in getting the rifle into action on snap shots. Just thought I would share the joy.
The A Bolt Stainless Stalker in 270 Win shoots very well with low recoil as do all 270 Win that I have shot.

I have been shooting Federal Premium 150 gn Nosler partitions with the BOSS and it has been providing 3 shot <1" groups from a clean cold barrel. I am sure I could tweak it for more acurracy.

I am currently working up a Barnes TTSX 130 gn load but am reluctant to adjust my rifle during hunting season. I will probably just chrony the loads and adjust for accuracy post season.

What I really like about the stainless stalker is not having to worry about the stock shifting when soaking wet.

I am planning an Africa trip next year for plains game and need the same rifle model in 300 Win mag. I may add a recoil pad and some weight to mitigate recoil.

I have been shooting action pistol sports (IDPA etc...) and have shifted gears to focus more on hunting. I have found IDPA to be riddled with conflict in stage set up , scoring, and dealing with the general public. It is almost like work!!
