does anyone know of any decent reference books that cover both rifles and shotguns? I'm looking for something contemporary that covers firearms from the late 1800's to today. I saw the 'book of rifles and shotguns' by Jack O'Connor but it seems a little outdated. Any suggestions?

Ok, this book is dated as in copyright 1958. None the less good information: Rifles A Modern Encyclopedia by Henry M Stebbins. Availability Amazon used book dealers.

The Stebbins book is a good one.
The Rifle in America by Phil Sharpe is a very good book.
Neither book cover shotguns.

For modern stuff I am no help.

thanks for the info, guys. I actually found a great little book at an antique store called 'The Hunter's Rifle' by Clay Harvey. I think it's by the North American Hunting Club and is part of their information series.
