I always keep the reloading supplies and ammo in good standing. I have more than enough to get me thru the hard times, and if I needed to, I could go YEARS without buying anything and still shoot my dinner and paper.

I have got plenty of Brass, doing ok on Bullets, need to stock up on the the .308caliber, not as much powder or primers as I would like, but working on it.

On average though I go through a half a box of shells per rifle per year. So I think I will do ok.

Aside from needing more small rifle primers, I've got a pretty solid stash of brass, bullets and powder. My next order or trip to the shop will be for primers and more 9mm bullets. I've got enough components for my center-fire, big-game rifles to last "a while". :)

I am in sort of a "Pickle" here where I live. There are NO Gunshops in my area that handle reloading components like powder, bullets or primers. They Only have factory loaded ammo. Also one shop went out-of-business last August. The closest place for me to find powder is in E-town which is about 35 miles north of where I live & the store isn't all that large either and they don't sell bullets for reloading.:( I currently have enough ammo but I like to reload as one of my hobbies. If I can't find the types of powder I need then I have to order it and pay almost double for a can of powder or order over $100 worth of powder due to the unfair "HazMat" charge.

I don't see why every one again think they need to stock pile componets .
We just got through a period where every one was hoarding primers etc, and you could not buy primers unless you were willing to pay an inflated price .
If every one think they need to stock up on 10 thousand primers , then there is again none to export to us to the North . I would not pay eighty dollars a thousand as was the price two years ago , because of this .
Do you think there is another WAR coming down the road that we are not currently in ?

Graf and Sons is really good about their powder and primer prices. They just recently had free HAZMAT shipping if you bought prmers and powder totaling 16 pounds. I know that sounds liek alot of stuff, but a keg of powder and a case of primers would have qualified. As of this moment, they have a case of CCI200 primers for $99.95. So even with the hazmat fees, that is only $25/1000.

Sounds like your well stocked, dmsbandit! I normally buy a couple of one pound cans of powder which last me at least a year. If they don't have the power I need I guess I'll just have to order it & pay the unfair HazMat fee, which will more than double the cost of the powder unless I buy several cans!!! I use to live in a much larger city in SW Indiana (Evansville) and all I had to do is drive five miles in any direction to find what I need in the way of reloading equipment. There is a LOT more Hunting opportunities with lots & lots of hunting & shooting areas down here where I am. However the "People" population is very low to have a well stocked large gun store or even gun shows. The Population in my County is around 22,000 while back up in Vanderburgh County, Indiana the "People" population is over 300,000!! The nearest large gun store is 75 miles one direction!!:(

.....better get out and buy everything you can put your hands on. Max out the credit cards and dip into the college funds. I heard that after this month all the primer, powder, brass, and bullet manufacturers are going to be shut down. Whats left on the shelves is going up in price 2000% and you're going to have to register your bullets. This **** social crossroads is bringing me down........

No I don't think that War is eminent. I am more worried about my employment at the moment. I am sure my wife will not be real happy if I get layed off and need to buy supplies from my unemployment check (if it were to be still around).

I am not trying to cause inflated prices for others, but I am more worried about keeping my supplies up, cause if I am unemployed for a long period of time I am going to need something to do.

Ya gotta add in a wink ( ;) ) or something, when you say stuff like this on the Internet! There will be just enough folks who believe you, then they start telling other people and before you know it, you've created a self-fulfilling prophecy! Makes me wonder if you own a gunshop with lots of reloading supplies that you need to sell? :D

Davers,
When you find a bullet, powder, or primer you like, buy as much as you can afford. Bullets are good forever on a self. If you store powder and primers correctly, those will last you for generations too. I have powder that is almost 40 yrs old and it still goes bang everytime I load it.

If ,for example, you have a 270 that likes H4831 and 130gr bullets, get a keg of powder, case of primers, and 500-1000 bullets. Budget you reloading/ammo expenses every month just as you would dinner and a movie and before you know it you'll be set for any shortages that come around.

Sorry, Im lazy and use the quick post most of the time, no little faces:D.

Seriously though, we as shooters are our own worst enemy when it comes to component shortages and prices. Staying well stocked (read as approximately 2 year supply for YOUR shooting habits) is one thing, guys that think they need to fill up the bunker with a 30 year supply @ 10,000/year is another.

I bought enough primers last year 400 to keep me hunting for awhile . that is all I was allowed to buy from the gun shop , to ensure every one would have some .
Well that does allow lots for hunting and some rounds to site in, but nothin' for a afternoon at the range . As a matter of fact I have not spent a afternoon at the range for some time , since I can not get primers to feed my revolver let alone my wife's and the two levers .
Last winter due to shortages I could buy a brick for a short time from a wholesaler and it would cost I think 86.00 delivered .( that is 1000 primers )
Yeah I have bought some supplies unemployed myself . Better be able to shoot maybe some rounds once a month rather than none at all .
But if every one buys two or three years of suppys at once , the guy like me at the end of the pipe gets none . Even @ 86 dollars the whole salers were back ordered .

I have a few on hand, enough to get me by. I'm not worried about the end-of-the-world scenarios since I already have that trip booked, but I like to shoot a lot and summertime can bring low supplies and I prefer to have that taken care of.

Bullets, powder and primers usually get run through the prairie dog guns at a good rate. Right now I don't have enough loaded ammo or components for a whole years worth of varminting. This is a problem I intend on fixing before the month is out.

For normal hunting calibers a box of bullets, a pound of powder and box of primers last me several years. Probably wouldn't hurt to have more on hand.... just in case.

If things were really to start going south, and I just cut out a lot of the target practice for me and my granddaughter, I would have enough to last the rest of my life, and a lot of hers, or until the powder and primers finally went belly up. That or fight one hellava battle if needed. I already had more than enough primers to last a few years of heavy shooting, and recently found the three main powders I use at 30% off so I bought all they had. I have plenty of new, unfired brass. Bullets would be the only thing I would need more of and recently bought almost 1,000 of each of the two main one's I'm shooting when they were 30% off with the powder.
