First post. Long time (ago) hunter, marine, with a question on an unusual - to me- rim-fire case that was just shown to me by a stranger.

Unfired, no bullet, no stamping, just under .50 cal, rim width about 11-16 in, case length 1 5/8 in, shoulder starts at 1 3/16 in, ends at 1 3/8.

Any info will be appreciated. Might be able to post a photo if this forum has an easy way to do that - and I mean VERY EASY.

Welcome. Until you have more time and posts on the forum, you'll need to use Photobucket or other third-party hosts.

Sounds like an early rimfire case from the 1860s - 1870s? Rimfire used to be a lot more common back then. Spencer, perhaps? I'm not all that familiar with the genre.
