for those who have not heard yet, Ruger is now mfr'g their M77/22's with the barrel threaded into the receiver. they will no longer use the V-Block method. i have a message into a gal (customer service) at ruger looking up the serial # of when this took place. some new rifles out there are old style and some of the new ones are now threaded. Just a FYI. i did ask if they were planning on doing this to the 10/22's too and she said at this time she had not heard anything but would look into this for me as well.

Thanks for the info, Jim -

I've got a 10/22 with the V-Block, as well as a 77/22 in .22 Mag. The 77/22 in .22 Hornet has the threaded bbl. Thought the Hornet was because of being a centerfire, rather than rimfire. Guess they found the threaded works better.

I did obtain a Green Mountain bbl in .17HMR and install on the .22 Mag action. The V-Block design made it easy to do so. With threaded bbls, I'm out of luck unless taking it to a smith.

when i did my 17 hmr green mountain barrel swap i had a smith head space it so i didn't need to worry about shimming the bolt halves to tighten up head space, then i had the barrel shank lock-tight to the receiver with the lock-tight red. i had that done after reading that is how Lilja recommends them being done. then i traded that rifle away in a moment of weekness, but for a .280 rem all weather M77 Mark II even up!

Still have the .22 Mag factory bbl that I'll probably reinstall one of these days to shoot up the case (yes, case) of ammo that was purchased years ago when it was around $4.00/box. That's why mine isn't loc-tite'd together. Still shoots subMOA with the .17HMR merely shoved in and tightened down, as long as the wind doesn't get over 5 MPH!
