So far, so good! Took my new-to-me 1999 No. 1B .243 Winchester out to the range today to see what it would do at 100 yards with Federal factory 100 grain soft points. It has a Leupold VX IIc 3x9 scope on it. Nothwithstanding the 98 degree temps, 80 percent humidity and biting flies I put the last 3 rounds in a 1.5 inch group. Now, if I could just move the scope back just a little more...I've already ordered one of the Ruger BO4 offset rings for the rearmost mount which will get me another .75 inches and, if need be, will get a second one to back it up a bit further still. The trigger was not too bad either with no discernible creep but it's definitely on the heavy side - I'd guess about 5 to 6 pounds. All things considered it was a good introduction to Ruger No. 1 shooting!:)

Ruger !

Just found NIB 1978 22.250 at yard sale, set it up with Lupoid and out to range. What I found was it will shoot very tight groups with 55 gr factory Winchester got several bug hole groups at 100 yards.
Problem is trigger is to heavy have to work to hard to get a good shot off. :(:(

Does any one make trigger kits for the Ruger # 1's:confused::confused::confused:

Moyers makes triggers for the #1..I got two that need them, its unusual that a 78 #1 would have trigger problems though all the red pads ive touched seem alot sweeter than the newer blacks...If you dont mind me asking whatd u pay for you new #1??

Gotta love the No 1s.I only have one a vintage red pad in .22 Hornet had a gunsmith adjust the trigger ,outstanding looking for another in a midbore.Only complaint I have is it seems to be sensitive to fouling, needs to be cleaned after about 20 rounds or accuracy drops off.
