Does anyone know how the colored cased finish is applied to on the Ruger Vaquero's? I know that it is not a real color cased hardened finish. It is some type of chemical film.

It would be nice to know who does it for Ruger. They farm out many of their work.

Can anyone copy their work?

If I am recalling correctly it is some kind of cyanide chemical bath that gives looks, but does little if anything to actually surface harden the metal like real CCH does. Doug Turnbull does the best actual CCH that I have ever seen. His prices are not cheap, but you definitly get what you pay for.

I was kind of thinking about having a scope with a color cased finish. Will not work since it's aluminum. I'll just leave the scope as is and have the scope rings color cased along with receiver, lever, hammer and buttplate.
