You might give Jack First a try, if they say no then be sure to ask who they recommend for a source.

S&W may have parts, though only for them to use and not for sale. You may be able to send the slide or gun and have it repaired. If you have a buddy who is also a LEO, then that identification may give your request a higher priority.

 

Nothing from Jack First... the factory did call and I will call them back as they called before I got up this morning ( 6:30 pacific time ) . I am going to see about sending it back to them , thanks for the heads up on Jack First !
The factory just called and is sending me a new extractor claw , pin and spring as I have the means to do the replacement and experience to work on items of this nature ... so I'll see ...

 

That's good news, glad the factory came through.

IIRC, the extractor pin is tapered, as well as the hole in the slide, and the pin is removed from-top-to-bottom. If instructions are included, be sure to read. If you can, measure each end of the pin to verify the taper.

 

Thanks for the heads up on the pin but it is not tapered. New factory replacement is roll pin which will make is a bit easier to fit . Possible one of the itterations used a tapered pin ? I have a feeling that some things get changed on these when new versions come out over time .

I´m from Austria (in Europe, not Australia ) and planning to buy a used S&W 5906 in a perfect condition.
Since I read about possible problems with the extractor I want to be sure to get a replacement part if necessary.
I searched everywhere in the net but coundn´t find one, even not at Brownells - the part is sold out and backorder isn´t possible.
So does anyone know a dealer who has such a part (plus the extractor springs needed for replacement) on stock and can ship them to Europe? (I know fitting needs a gunsmith - here in Austria are hundreds of them, just no spare parts...)

An extractor driven by a separate spring is about the easiest part on earth to make with a file. In fact, it's quicker to make one than call the factory!
