I am planning on deer hunting with my S&W 629 with a 6" ported barrel next season and was wanting to scope it.  Does anyone have any recommendations for a reliable scope mount that isn't too expensive and where I can get it?  Any recommendations on scopes are also welcome.  Thanks in advance.

watt,

That's a tough one. If I'm not mistaken, aren't the S&W's already tapped under the rear site assembly for a scope base?

You remove the rear site assembly and the holes are supposed to be there. Thought I saw this with the later model guns unless it was on the special models.

Some of the clamp on units are real rube goldburg setups. I would not be inclined to trust them with heavy 44 mag loads.

SSK and Magnaport makes a nice mount system but it will cost you some bucks and will permanently alter the gun.

Hope some of this helps,

Ray
